Review: THE SHORT SECOND LIFE OF BREE TANNER by Stephenie Meyer

Book Review

**SPOILER ALERT** (For all Twilight books and this one.)

The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner: An Eclipse Novella (Twilight Saga)
This 178 page novella called THE SHORT SECOND LIFE OF BREE TANNER by Stephenie Meyer (2010) quenched my thirst for more about the Twilight Saga Vampires. I read all four original books in 2009 and loved them all. This is a companion novella to the third book, ECLIPSE. It is a prerequisite to read ECLIPSE before this little story!!

It is about Bree Tanner, the female vampire the Cullens consider keeping to raise as one of their own after the war with the baby vampires that Victoria creates. This book apparently came about as a result of a character synopsis about baby vampires and what they are really like. Bree has a great story and reflects the volatile need for blood as apparently “normal” newborns require.

I appreciate that Stephenie has shared this story with us. In BREAKING DAWN Bella finally becomes a vampire. But she is a super-vampire who can unnaturally control her thirst for human blood. We are told this over and over and it seriously didn’t make me stand in awe of her because there was no proof of what “real” baby vampires were actually like. So if you’re reading the Twilight Saga for the first time and have finished ECLIPSE, read this one next before you read BREAKING DAWN. I’d like to see the affect this has on the opinions of those who’ve read it in that order. Hmm?

So, cheers to Stephenie for feeding my addiction! (I am refusing to read any other vampire stories. I’ve committed to the Twilight Saga for my only source of vamp-tales.) I only have ONE criticism… what the heck is with the “red-hair” on Edward. That confused me!

Merit-Meter: 4. Very Good: A very good read. I wish she would complete MIDNIGHT SUN. (TWILIGHT, Book 1 from the point of view of Edward.)
